The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) is a 102-year-old nonprofit providing affordable, high-quality immigration legal services, education, and civic engagement opportunities to immigrants, refugees and their families as they join the Bay Area community. As Communications Manager, I design and execute IIBA’s annual communications plan, in coordination with the Executive Director, manage IIBA’s website and social media, produce IIBA’s Annual Report and monthly e-newsletters, design and prepare sponsorship and marketing materials for events, and coordinate all contact with the Press.
I worked alongside Producers and Associate Producers at CNN Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia for four months in the Spring of 2016. I conducted research, transcribed and logged interviews, and helped obtain B-roll for a variety of CNN Documentaries.
In the lead-up to the 2016 Presidential Election, I served as a National Security Reporter for the Medill News Service (MNS), the Washington, DC Bureau of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. I reported on Capitol Hill, acting as a real-time reporter, filing stories from the field on tight deadlines, with updates throughout the day. I also regularly filed enterprise stories and produced video packages, utilizing Capitol Hill press credentials. I reported on the 2016 Vice Presidential debate in Farmville, Virginia for Public Radio International (PRI).
